Very interesting video, thanks for sharing your info. What do you use to keep pests away? Do you use banker plants? If so what are they? I had about 10 pepper plants growing last year in my conservatory. Small flies laid their eggs on them though and I had to get rid of the plants. It was such a shame.

I have just planted some pepper seeds in the hope of better results this year. I hope they do not have the same problem.

    Hope you reply :-)

Great question. We usually don’t use banker plants. The only time we use this type of control is for controlling green peach aphids on peppers. The aphid bank is wheat plants loaded with wheat aphids. When they come to the greenhouse we introduce Aphidius colemani that parasitise aphids. When green peach aphids show up on pepper plants they go after them. With other kinds of pest we fight using other kinds of biologicals – beneficial insects.

On my website I have a page for pest control where you can find different pest control books from Amazon .There are few very good and informative books available on how to control pests with beneficial insects. In your case I would recommend to find out exactly what kind of fly you are dealing with.

You might need a professional to look at them or you can try to find a book with pictures to help you to get the name of this pest. Because, different pests will need a different beneficial insect or even an insecticide if bugs are not available for control. If you find out what fly it is, let me know. I might find a solution for you. You can also subscribe to my blog where I will be posting some of the pest problems and solutions for them as we start finding them.

Thank you very much for your replies. I have subscribed to your website and look forward to the updates. Its early days at the moment in the UK growing season but as things progress, I might drop you an email (if thats ok)
Your website has loads of information. I really appreciate what you have done. I also find the tomato section interesting as I have about 40 plants (5 varieties) which I started from seed in late January under artificial light. They are about 50 cm high now.
